And It Began to Rain posits a world much like our own, in which by the end of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century, digital networking technologies such as the internet, virtual reality, and social media have created a distinct split between physical human embodiment and human subjectivity. This split causes physical embodiment and human subjectivity to function as separate but parallel entities, drastically changing the human experience in relation to digital technology.
